Hi, welcome

I’m a writer and visual artist.

I’m interested in images and text—and how the two intersect with story. Whether it’s more traditional forms of documentary and non-fiction, or more exploratory forms of art and narrative, I consider it all part of a single practice.

I work fluently in Mandarin, French and my native English.

VISUAL

My photos and videos have appeared in publications like The Texas Tribune, Business Insider, CNBC, NPR and Politico, and also various film festivals.

I’m currently working on a personal documentary project about China.

WRITING, TEACHING & RESEARCH

My writing, reporting and criticism have appeared in Ultra Dogme, City Limits, Business Insider, and the Mail & Guardian. Occasionally, I translate from Mandarin to English.

See more about my teaching in the teaching page.

BIO

I’m currently based in Xiamen, China, where I teach British and American literature at Xiamen University.

I got my start at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, where I received an MA in documentary filmmaking. While there I gained a foundation in visual storytelling, as well as research, reportage and the ethics of journalism.
